(March 10, 2008)
The Level 4 boys finished their last local qualifier in great
fashion. They are looking really good and are now setting their
sights on the state championship meet on March 16. Unfortunately,
due to the bad weather on Saturday, Camden Putnal was unable
to compete when the host gym experienced a blackout and the meet had
to be cancelled.
As it stands currently, ALL the boys are looking
really good and stand a very good chance of qualifying to the
Regional Championship meet that will be held next month at Temple
University. Optional gymnasts Nate Kaufman and
Eugene Bahratsou are also looking good and should also qualify
for their regional meet. Of course -- they have their
eye on still trying to qualify for Nationals!
(Feb 7 2008) The
Level 5 Boys Team turned in another good competition on February 3 in
their second NJ Qualifier of the season.
- After a tough start on the Floor Exercise,
Jack Lynch was able to refocus himself and post his best all
around of the season and break the 50 point barrier. He also
captured first place on the Parallel Bars.
- Sean Thompson continues to improve with
every meet. Sean just missed breaking fifty, but also managed his
best all around of the season with a 49.0.
- Jack Sheerin also came away with his
highest all around of the year with a 45.3. Despite not placing,
Jack remains very focused and committed to improving himself with
every practice. Head coach Michael Zack feels that if Jack continues
to work as hard as he does, he will make that so far elusive fifty
in his all around.
The boys will be competing next at the John Pancott
Invitational in Malvern, PA on February 11. This may be a hard meet for
the boys because many of them, including their coach, have been sick for
most of the week. Making this a very short practice time for the boys.
The Level 4 boys finally got back into
competition after an almost 2 month delay. The boys had to miss the last
qualifier because the older boys were down in Virginia that weekend. But
all the hard work paid off. The team turned in their best performances
yet, collecting the most blue ribbons and only one white. All this
without their coach. Mike was forced to sit in and judge the competition
due to a lack of available judges, so level 9 gymnast, Eugene
Bahratsou, took charge of the team along with help from appointed
team captain Kyle Howard. Even though Eugene was not allowed to
put the boys up on the equipment, he worked along side the coaches from
Sunburst and Will-Moor. Eugene did an excellent job in keeping the boys
focused and well behaved. Coach Mike is thinking about letting Eugene
coach them at all the remaining meets. They seem to do better. :)
The Level 4 boys will compete again in three weeks.
